13 Sure-Fire Signs That You’ve Found The Lehenga That’s ‘The One’

BY Sakshi | 12 Mar, 2018 | 963 views | 5 min read

Just like with the love of your life, they say you'll know when you know! Yea, your bridal lehenga is probably the most important thing for you for the wedding, and it's important to know when it's the right one you! All that scouting and shopping can take a toll and make you a little numb to the prettiness, but here are sure fire ways to know that the lehenga is the 'The One' for you!

It flatters you in every way and is totally your style!

The silhouette, the fit, the flare, the blouse- everything should flatter your body type! You can always get things tweaked and altered, but you should have a basic idea of when you try it on that this is perfect for you in every way! Even if it is offbeat, it should be something that suits your style as a person!

It complements your skin tone

It adds a subtle glow to your face, even without makeup! In terms of the hue of the lehenga complementing your complexion, yes, that is a thing, certain hues will always compliment every skin tone better- it will be a certain hue of pink, red or blue, and you'll know what yours if you don't already once you try it!

Your jewelry pops against it and stands out

If you're wearing real jewelry, chances are that you've already bought it before the lehenga, so try it on against the lehenga and see whether it's standing out or not-you don't want the jewelry to drown in the work or under the folds!

The style is timeless

Another thing that's very important, which a lot of brides do not realize- your wedding lehenga should have a timeless quality, no matter which color it is! Cold shoulder, off shoulder, peplum, slinky- all of them look great right now, but when you see your photos 20 years later will it still be? Pick one that maybe you can pass it on as an heirloom- to your kids without any hassle which means its fine for 2050!

The blouse fit and sleeve length is just right

It flatters you, and is perfect for a summer or a winter wedding- it should be all season, so that you can reuse the blouse later with another lehenga or saree too!

It can be altered as per your body easily

The lehenga's border or the design shouldn't change with your height or weight- it should be easy to alter without losing out on an important element. Your fit can be worked on - if you put on or lose weight, but right in the start if you have to remove a whole border or add something that you really don't like, then it's not worth it!

Everything else pales in comparison to it

Yep, if everything else you've seen so far doesn't seem to matter anymore, then this is one! You can imagine yourself walking into your wedding in this one and the other options you shortlisted are not really matching up in terms of how this one looks on you!

Someone nearly teared up when you saw yourself in it the first time!

Whether it was you, your mom, your sister or your BFF- you know it is 'The One' by the look in your or someone else's eyes! You know that look that rom com's talk about? That's the one! But that said, make sure you are happy with the lehenga too!

It compliments the groom's outfit and the decor

These things matter- in the final photographs you'll realise how important it all is! It's fine if you want to be contrasting or matching- but at the end of the day, your lehenga should complement it as well as the theme you're going for! Or if you haven't decided the groom's outfit and decor theme- work it in a way that it all complements without looking odd!

You aren't drowning in it!

Yep, it should look like you are wearing the lehenga, and not the lehenga wearing you! The dupatta or lehenga doesn't weigh like crazy, and you are comfortable moving around in it- after all, you have to wear it for a long long time!

The outfit seems worth the price!

To you. That's all that matters. If you've spent a bomb on the lehenga then make sure you look like a million bucks in it too! The outfit and the price you have paid for it should be complimentary. Don't pay for a designer lehenga just cz of the tag on it- you should love the lehenga too! If you see yourself mixing and matching and wearing it in the future too- add to the brownie points!

You can wear it later too!

The lehenga is versatile, it has a subtle embroidery and a second dupatta that's light so you can wear it after the wedding too instead of just leaving it packed forever, that is totally going to be worth it!

You are buying it for the right reasons

Not because your mom loves it or your sister or because it is a designer piece or because there's a massive discount on it- the reason why you pick and choose your wedding lehenga should be only one- that you louuuuuve it! Yes, the emotion should be that strong!
