Wedding Planners Dish Out The Biggest Mistakes Couples Make When Planning a Wedding!

BY Sakshi | 09 Aug, 2023 | 6882 views | 6 min read

A lot of us like planning our weddings by ourselves, but wedding planners seem heaven-sent for people who hardly have time or the patience to meticulously plan and organise a wedding. They are the ones who do all the running around, so you and your family members can relax and concentrate on only having a good time! In the run up to the wedding, wedding planners these days become more like friends, and sometimes, agony aunts! They listen to all your tantrums and dramas while trying to convert your vision into a reality- even if that means making some 10,000 calls to get exactly the kind of props and decor you want!

So we decided to ask some wedding planners some advice which they would wanna give couples- but almost always are never able to give! Here goes!

Underestimating time, effort & budgets

Vivaah Weddings★ 5 say:

There are many things’ couples tend to overlook when planning their wedding. One major mistake is not leaving some extra budget for last minute additions, changes or miscellaneous elements that may come up. Sometimes closer to the wedding days, the couple may decide they want to add some elements to the wedding that they previously skipped on. This is when the extra side budget will come in handy and if they end up not using it then it’s just some extra money for the honeymoon!

Moreover, couples sometimes underestimate the amount of time and effort required to plan a wedding. Wedding planning can be stressful and time-consuming, and it's easy to become overwhelmed. To avoid this, we suggest that couples should start planning attest 8-10 months in advance, delegate important personal tasks to their close family members or friends in addition to the actual wedding planners.

Rushing into decisions and neglecting self-care

The Wedding Ties★ 4.9 says:

In the world of weddings, every detail matters. From the delicate lace on the gown to the blooms adorning the aisle, it's the culmination of these elements that craft the perfect symphony of love and celebration. However, even the most meticulously planned weddings can stumble upon unforeseen hurdles. One of the biggest blunders couples make is rushing through decisions. In the excitement of wedding planning, it's easy to hastily choose venues, vendors, and themes. Also, your guests' comfort and enjoyment should be a priority. From seating arrangements to the flow of events, neglecting the guest experience and self-care can lead to a disjointed celebration. Amidst the whirlwind of planning, self-care often takes a backseat, you need to prioritize wellness to enjoy the journey.

Overwhelming guest lists & failing to delegate

The Event Designer★ 5 say:

In the enchanting world of Indian weddings, where colors, traditions, and celebrations converge, some couples unknowingly stumble upon common pitfalls that can mar their dream day. As an Indian wedding planner, I've witnessed countless love stories culminate in unforgettable events, but the most significant mistakes are often ignoring budget constraints, creating overwhelming guest lists, failing to delegate, disregarding cultural significance, booking vendors hastily, and overlooking venue logistics. To ensure a seamless and magical celebration, couples must set a realistic budget, streamline their guest list, delegate responsibilities, honor cultural roots with pride, secure vendors early on, and prioritize venue practicalities.

Getting lost in trends

Event Basket★ 4.9 says:

In the world of weddings, trends come and go like the seasons. From grand floral arrangements to rustic barnyard settings, couples are often tempted to follow the latest trends in their pursuit of a memorable celebration. However, in the quest for the perfect wedding day, some couples lose sight of an essential truth: every trend is unique, just like their love story.

Trends in weddings can be inspiring and innovative, but they should serve as a foundation rather than a blueprint. Instead of chasing after fleeting trends, couples should focus on personalizing their special day. This means infusing their personalities into every aspect of the celebration, from the vows they exchange to the music that plays during the reception. When trends align with their genuine preferences, they can certainly enhance the overall experience. But when trends override the couple's identity, the wedding risks losing its true essence.

Missing out on deals & discounts

Two Fat Ladies★ 5 say:

A lot of couples don't know that they can cut sweet deals with hotels at the time of booking if they're booking a lot of rooms. So hire a planner before hand - so we can bring in deals - discounts at the salon for their guests, free wifi, free ironing of upto 4 clothes per room per day and sometimes even permission to empty the mini bar!

Going overboard with hospitality

Devika Narain and Company★ 4.6 says:

I know you mean well, and want to do the very best for your guests, but sometimes too much can overwhelm and have the opposite reaction. Go easy on the menu (it is impossible to eat 45 dishes!), just one or two performers are sufficient, allow time to breathe between functions and leave opportunities for your families to bond.

Last-minute planning

Shubharambh productions say:

Usually, what we have observed is a tendency among individuals to procrastinate when it comes to reserving venues, securing vendors, and making comprehensive plans. Procrastinating can result in limited options, higher costs, and unnecessary stress. Rushing decisions on vendors, venues, and details may lead to limited options and higher costs. A sufficient amount of time allows for careful consideration and negotiation, ensuring your vision is executed flawlessly. By avoiding last-minute planning, you can give yourself the opportunity to enjoy the process, secure the best choices, and create a memorable wedding day without the chaos.

Compromising on the wrong things

Purple Tree Events Solution★ 5 say:

Never compromise on the photography team. Go with your instincts not the budget. Also, work with a planner who you are comfortable with and understands your taste and requirements. This will help you (the bride) relax during the wedding and stress less over the smaller details! Don't forget to always grab a bite before leaving for the functions. Nine out of ten times the bride and groom never end up eating at the wedding function and end up with zero energy!
