A Cross cultural wedding in Goa with a difference: Heba & Varun

BY The WMG Bride | 22 Jun, 2014 | 11349 views | 3 min read

Hindu- Muslim weddings are never easy to organize, but this couple pulled it off in the most beautiful way possible. With their friends singing the Gayatri Mantra, and family reciting the Quran and speeches showing the importance of marriage in both religions, they managed to create a quaint affair  for themselves away from any particular religious rituals  but special only to them and their family.! Not only that, this bride is our new fashion hero (anyone who travels to Pakistan to buy her trousseau fits the bill, but also loved all her hair-do's at each event).

Meet Heba & Varun

Heba recounts "As I was walking through an extremely packed club in Delhi, someone accidently dropped their drink on me! That someone happened to be my future husband’s bestfriend. Varun took that opportunity to strike up a conversation and we never looked back" Now that is a bollywood 'Jab we met' story if we ever heard one.

Hi Heba, tell us more about this cultural melting pot of a wedding! I was completely involved in the planning of my wedding. From the invitations to my outfits to the food! I love Pakistani designs, so I travelled to Pakistan to buy my Sangeet and Wedding outfits (vendor details given below)! We decided to have a small beach wedding in Goa and I took many trips to ensure that the functions would go as planned. We hired a Goan wedding planner – Sunset Getaways and with their help, we planned out our dream beach wedding where we hosted 250 of our closest family and friends for the weekend. Varun is Hindu and I am a Muslim. That was bound to create some complications! We decided to not have a religious ceremony, and instead, sat with our closest family and friends and scripted a secular and spiritual wedding ceremony. We have our friends sing the Gayatri Mantra, family recite verses from the Quran, we had speeches talking about the importance of marriage in both religions, we exchanged rings and wedding vows. The highlight of the wedding was definitely hearing Varun’s vows. He had everyone, including me, in tears. His vows were beautiful. In terms of my outfits - I custom designed my mehendi outfit using fabrics from Benaras and stuck to Pakistani designer Elan for my major function outfits. Both my makeup artists - Minette Perreira in Goa, and Tejasvini Chander in Delhi made me feel like am absolute princess. Narendra Goenka , from Navin Studio also did a fab job in capturing moments and video.
