A beautiful at home roka followed by a classy and fun engagement at Trident, Mumbai, this two-day celebration of celebrity stylist Tanya Vohra was nothing but dreamy! We absolutely loved the ethereal look in a Sabyasachi Mukherjee★ 4.9 sharara, Tanya sported for her intimate at home roka, and couldn't stop gushing over her unique engagement gown by Gaurav Gupta★ 4.8 the following day. And we can't not mention the gorgeous home decor for roka at Tanya's house. We haven't seen genda phool displayed so vividly in a long time. And Recall Pictures★ 3.5 captured the candid moments and otherwise of this two-day engagement in a splendid manner!

The Home Roka Ceremony

The Engagement

From The Bride:

Neev and I had a two day engagement ceremony - an intimate Roka ceremony at my house followed by a party the day after. Since Neev is a sindhi and I’m a Punjabi our parents decided to merge both our ceremonies and make it into our own special version of both. We kicked off the home ceremony with a Guru Granth Path which then led into the Roka for him and Pakki Mishri for me. After our ceremonies, we exchanged our rings, which were brought over by our 3-year-old nephews, Arjun and Aryan. All this while we had the most incredible singer, Mansheel Gujral, singing in the backdrop. This entire event was so surreal, it felt like a dream. Once the ceremonies got over, Mansheel turned up the tempo and the night turned into an absolute rager. The energy and vibe of that day/night was just unmatched and we couldn’t have imagined how perfect it would be. Oh and how could we forget to mention the food, from the starters circulating throughout the evening to the lavish spread set out for dinner, Studio Kitchen did a fantastic job!

Day 2 - We had our engagement party at the Regal Room at the Trident. The evening kicked off with my fiancé Neev speaking about us, how we met, how we fell in love and how we can’t wait to spend our lives together. This was then followed by a lovely surprise performance by my father and sisters which really just set the energy level and enthusiasm for the night. Just when you thought the night was at its best, Manj & Nindy Kaur from RDB and Mitch Hyare appeared on stage and they set it on fire. The entire hall erupted into dance, it was electric. With Manj on the mic and Mitch on the dhol, the crowd was engulfed in their energy, it was contagious. To top this off, the hospitality from the Oberoi, the service, the food, they were just spectacular. Afreen wedding services did the décor for us at both events. They were so amazing, they spent hours with us designing and creating various styles that would suit the venues till we had arrived at the perfect décor. From the flowers being flown down from the Netherlands for the home function to the stunning floral glass bar at the Trident, they really made sure that both venues looked absolutely gorgeous.

Of course we would be remiss not to mention Recall pictures. Raounak and his team really went out of their way to make sure they captured every single moment so we could relive this magical evening over and over. They were always around, not missing a single thing from before the events started till the end of each night. And House of pixels for being ever so patient and giving us portraits for a lifetime at our engagement party.

My hair and makeup was done by the formidable artist Deepa Verma whom I’m extremely close to personally as well. We didn’t pre plan my looks months before, she just saw the outfits on the day and knew exactly what she wanted to do and it worked perfectly. Simple yet gorgeous makeup on both days, she didn’t even cover freckles on my skin and kept it looking very natural and dewy. From the way she draped the dupatta over my head to the delicate hairdos it was sheer magic. The best thing being that she kept me looking like myself yet the most special version. I felt confident, easy and simply on top of the world.

I wore a pastel green sharara from Sabyasachi with a mangtikka and earrings from their jewelry line for my roka at home. It was the first outfit I saw when I entered the store and the only one I tried on. It was quite an unusual sabyasachi outfit; vintage yet traditional and I instantly knew that this was the one. For my engagement party, I didn’t want a conventional outfit. It had to be a mix of traditional and high fashion. Going with Gaurav Gupta was a no brainer for me; I’ve known him for a long time and have always been in awe of his work, the way his designs fit your body, the way it makes you feel; its indescribable… there’s poetry and magic in his designs. It took us nearly six months to pick the silhouette and also numerous colour swatches to nail the exact colour I had envisioned. Initially the bustle was attached to the skirt but eventually GG made that detachable, which made it the best dancing lehenga ever!

Neev has always been very particular about his clothing so choosing the perfect outfit for him wasn’t an overnight job, even for me as a men’s stylist ;). When it comes to Neev’s style, it has always been classic but with a twist. So for me, Rajesh Pratap Singh was the obvious choice here. Their styles resonated perfectly, he wore a pink silk pintuck Kurta for the home function and a royal blue tencel wool achkan at the Trident.
