A Sweet, Sindhi wedding in Raipur: Priyanka & Rahul

BY The WMG Bride | 09 Jun, 2014 | 8645 views | 4 min read

These college sweethearts dated for 6 years before tieing the knot. If you ask me, these two still look like they are in college and Navin Varma has managed to capture that sweet, young love that the pictures seem to emanate ! Love the brides reception hairdo and ofcourse another sighting of the Purple and pink sabya that has been a reader favourite since Rupans wedding here
Meet Priyanka and Rahul
They met six years ago in college at Raipur. Rahul says "Skipping classes and meeting on a daily basis at the canteen was a routine affair after that. Coffees, Movies, Dinners… it all happened like a cliched relationship but both of us loved it. Birthdays and Valentines used to be (and still are) full of cakes and roses. It went on for 2 years and we were so used to be around each other that we actually forgot that college will soon get over. Long Distance of two years post college was not so easy. But we were very sure that we would make it. Both, Priyanka and I, have put in a lot of efforts fulfilled with love to be here where we are today-. Fours years of Long distance is never easy and I am glad and feel extremely fortunate that she has been there all throughout to make it work. We are both Sindhis so our parents never really had a problem"

Hey guys, you both look adorable! Tell us more about this Sindhi affair in Raipur!
Well it started with the engagement which was more of a family affair, and Priyankas siblings enacted out our story on stage which was very sweet. Regarding the Sangeet, usually Sindhis have two separate events (the Groom side and the Bride Side) called 'Ladas'. Priyanka and I planned to have one event for both the sides. The event started with the traditional 'Ladas'. The highlight of the evening was the performance from both the sides. Packed with bollywood numbers, people just took it to another level altogether. This was followed by a day time wedding by the poolside. The reception was the same day , and performances were carried by a band playing melodious numbers. This event was conducted at the lawn of VW Canyon, Raipur.

Sounds fun! You guys took a shopping trip to Mumbai for everything right?
We managed to buy the outfits we wore at the events in just two days. We had decent amount of time to spend together before the wedding and that time just added to the excitement for both of us- so the shopping trip was one of the most memorable parts of the wedding.  For the engagement we planned to keep it a little formal, Priyanka was always keen to wear a gown in the event. And I had to compliment her with a tuxedo. She wanted to wear Blue and we managed to get something close to it (Vendor details given at the end) .  Priyanka wanted to wear a colourful lehenga for the Sangeet and this was the very first Lehenga she had tried in Aza, Mumbai. A Yellow and Pink lehenga by Peppermint Diva turned out to be perfect for the event. For the morning wedding, she  really did not want a very heavy lehenga because of the weather so we went to  Anita Dongre's store, where you get a variety of materials and colours to choose from. Priyanka wanted to wear a shade of pink and the girl at the store (Aditi) helps us customise from scratch. The reception was a rich velvet Sabyasachi from Aza.
Guys, any words of advice for couples to not go crazy during the wedding?
a. Plan the shopping much in advance. At least two-three months before the wedding.
b. Grooms: Please don't miss out on fittings. Very Important that you give a fit try for ever outfit.
c. Plan the sequence of events and try to stick to it. Give some time to the photographer before the event for the candid shots (you are at your best during the beginning of the event). That will give you ample amount of time to enjoy your own wedding.
