Elegance, Charisma & A Whole Lot Of Fun At This Nainital Wedding

BY Aakanksha | 09 Dec, 2021 | 9633 views | 6 min read

We love destination weddings that redefine fun while maintaining an elegant vibe throughout! Aakanksha & Chetan's Nainital celebration was one such event. Add to that how Aakanksha's Sister was her ultimate go-to person and you have a wedding that was planned with extreme attention to detail.

Aakanksha wore some gorg outfits - from a glittering Haldi outfit to a traditional red bridal one - she wore bookmark-worthy silhouettes at each function. We could see the love, the joy and sheer glow on the couple's face, all thanks to excellent photography by Photo Paparazzo★ 4.8

The Wedding

From The Bride:

The wedding took place on 18th September 2021, in Nainital. It was an amalgamation of the quaint & the contemporary, a sweet mix of old-world charm and modern-minimalism, all packed full of love & emotions. :’) It essentially seemed like an extension of our collective family getaway rituals from years ago- just two besties & best family friends coming together and celebrating a special union. ‘Sustainability’ is deep-seated in my family’s work ethic & lifestyle, so we were really keen on making this wedding as sustainable as possible. We handpicked local decorators, local karigars for some of my outfits, small-scale vendors, and avoided the use of any kind of plastic in our effort to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible. I also feel it challenged a lot of stereotypes and pre-conditioned societal ‘how-to's' of an Indian wedding- my dad or my brothers didn’t walk me down the aisle, my sister and my best girlfriends did; my sister did Chetan’s tikka as opposed to one of my brothers doing it; she was also a part of the milni ceremony where traditionally only men are involved. The days leading upto the wedding got me feeling so so nervous about all the functions. Just like any other bride I wanted everything to be proper and perfect- a thought that can get all us brides really caught up in our heads. My sister was sure (& worried) that I would be a crybaby all through (if not a bridezilla) but then there I was, crazy dancing to the tunes of Sukhbir’s Ishq Tadpave with my Chetu, our closest friends, and family. If I could describe my wedding in one simple word I would say- fun. I remember this moment vividly when I took a long scan around the room and I could only and only see smiles and laughter- that was it for me! It was beyond any perfect function or perfect outfit, it was pure joy and ease lingering in the air all through that made it the perfect beginning to my happily ever after.

The wedding planning was led by my little sister Aarushi Kohli. The decor direction to the line of events, the invites, the dress code, and even the bride & groom outfits were all styled by her. Needless to say, she did a phenomenal job at it, from picking out the perfect champagne lit crystal chandeliers, down to the figs and ferns, it wouldn’t have been possible without my sister’s ace (micro)management, haha. <3

Vendor Reviews:

Venue: Hotel Chevron Fairhaven's
A little wonder nestled in the hills that will enthrall you with its breathtaking view. This is a very old property that was originally built during the British Era and later transformed into a boutique resort. The old-style architecture, the warm smell of the wood, and the verdant gardens against the view of sky-touching mountains are all evocative of old-world charm, making it the perfect vintage retreat. The hospitality is fabulous, the management of the events was well supported by the hotel staff. Everything was wonderfully planned and executed and the catering is beyond delicious! Highly recommended for destination weddings.

Makeup Artist: Mehendi – Self,  Haldi & Cocktail – Reema Narula Wedding – Makeovers by Ridhi Verma
Ridhi has been a great professional to work with and she’s absolutely exceptional at her craft. She took her time to study my face and features and then decided on a makeup look that worked in tandem with my outfit to create a stunning look on the whole. What I loved most was that she patiently heard my preferences and at the same time didn’t shy away from proposing what she had planned, which in my case worked better than what I had in mind- I wanted to go with a sleek bun but she felt that a braid would work better, and it did! Focused on the tiniest details, prepped my skin really well and her finishing was fab!! Oh & cherry on top, she shared with me some expert self-care tips and tricks while she was at it- these have successfully made their way into my personal skincare regime. :)

Photographer: Photo Paparazzo
We were on the lookout for photographers and one requirement we were super particular about was that we wanted natural, happy photos that looked professional, yet not cheesy and posed. That’s when we came across Photo Paparazzo on the WMG website. Powell & his team were so professional yet accommodating and blended right in without being pushy. They made our special day even more special by beautifully capturing the essence of our wedding and creating just the perfect time capsule for us to reminisce with.

Decor: The Mountain Saga
The decor for all the functions was seamlessly managed & wonderfully executed by The Mountain Saga- a local decorator from Nainital.

Bridal Jewellery: Suhana Arts & Jewels, Soni Sapphire
I would definitely like to mention Suhana Arts & Jewels, Shahpur Jat, most of my jewelry was from here. I met Ratika at the store and she guided us & helped us pick the right jewelry to go with the outfits. The team was very courteous & hands-on with their job. I also picked up some lovely pieces from Soni Sapphire in South Ex, they have some exquisite bridal and cocktail jewelry. I am sure I’ll be going there often now. :)
