Day 1 at BMW India Bridal Week: Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla's Varanasi Collection!

BY The WMG Bride | 08 Aug, 2015 | 5958 views | 2 min read

Battling rains, traffic snarls and weather that made sure nobody's hair looked great, we reached DLF Emporio for Day 1 of IBFW. Another day, another bridal fashion week. Opened by genius show-masters  Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, we were presented a unique fashion tableau as they paid homage to Varanasi, one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. For what its worth , this was definitely the kind of start you want to a fashion week.

She walked on Lana Del Rays "Young & beautiful" and for the time she was on the ramp, she completely owned it and mesmerised the audience.  She also ended the show in a ruby red 10 kali net ghagra embroidered with gold metallic beads and Swarovski crystals, teamed with a blouse to match ; stylised with a simple dupatta draped in layers edged with a gold koran lace border on the head, at the finale. In between- there were moments of absolute brilliance in there with outfits using both Gota and mirror work. There was a particular sequence in between where there was a burst of color on stage , with kitsch, funky lehengas and anarkalis in a myriad of colors- using motifs of Palm trees  and mirror work done in striped patterns which we absolutely loved . We also loved the gorgeous outfits in ivory- their signature saris with delicately embroidered blouses, and straight churidars with chikan embellishments. Special mention to the groom wear here- unique cuts, colors and some fabulous options for the modern groom to sport.  Overall, this was an action packed, entertainer of a show with never a dull moment . The  bit of the collection which was a slight let down were the lehengas right at the end which lacked the punch the rest of the show delivered , but maybe that's because the rest of it was so fabulous , our expectations were sky high anyway.
