Gorgeous Underwater Engagement Shoot In Mexico That's Adventurous & Glam At The Same Time!

BY Latha Sunadh | 25 Aug, 2016 | 1308 views | 4 min read

Underwater shoots, crazy hot air balloon proposals and Kabhi Toh Baadal Barse renditions, Sonam and Vidush are two peas in a pod. Their love story is like a movie and their proposal, so beautiful but it was the Engagement underwater shoot that really caught our eye. Sonam doesn't know how to swim but the attention to detail and the pictures looked oh so beautiful - just take a look at this awesomeness! P.S This one is also called "Trash The Dress Underwater" photographed by Sebi Messina Photography.

"Vidush is from Delhi and I am from Mumbai. We met in San Francisco 3 years ago on March 29th 2013. Both of us work in California. We love travelling and living it up. Vidush proposed to me On Feb 14th 2016 in Capadoccia Turkey with a surprise trip on Valentine’s Day. It was a surprise trip and we were enjoying a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia when Vidush went down on his knees and popped the question, with a beautiful ring no less. And on the balloon were two other people - a professional photographer and a violinist who played ‘Kabhi Toh Baadal Barse’ sung by Arijit Singh as Vidush proposed. And we are getting married in Langkawi, Malaysia on December 17th 2016 at Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort and Spa.Our wedding hash tag is #JUJUkaSONA," explains Sonam.

From The Bride-to-be:
"For our engagement shoot, we wanted to invest in something that could be used as "art work" in our future home. We also wanted it to be something that is totally unique and one-of-a-kind.
After searching for months, we finally came across these cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Cenotes are natural sinkholes with limestone bedrock. Some are large, open outdoor pools measuring tens of meters in diameter and depth. Cenote water is very clear freshwater arriving as rainwater filtered slowly through the ground. We realised that that's what we wanted for our Engagement shoot," says Sonam.
"Narrowing down to a photographer was a challenge as there are many talented photographers in the area and prices range from $2000 - $5000 for a short shoot of 4 hours.
Our next challenge was doing the shoot. Vidush is a great swimmer and I only enter water bodies with a life jacket. I am not a swimmer, but I was determined on doing the shoot one way or the other. Vidush was obviously a huge support in this process. Good thing was that I had no fear of water. The photographer and his assistant were also very patient with my limited skills.
One hour south of Cancun, we reached the cenote at 8 am in the morning. I wore a long white dress and Vidush wore white pants and a white linen shirt for the under water shoot. Water was very cold early morning. We took some photos over water and then lots more under water. One challenge I had was the dress would always get stuck in my legs when I would try kicking my legs in the water. The tiny little fish in the water would nibble on our feet and hands like a fish pedicure through the process. It was quite hard to actually pose under water and hold our poses as well. All of this had to be done while holding our breath and smiling! The best part about this shoot - No hair and make up needed! In the end the results have blown our minds away! It is exactly what I had envisioned," adds Sonam happily.
