Make-up Artist's Reveal : Mistakes Brides Make These Days!

Makeup artists are like saviours for the brides! They are the ones who take care of the angry pimple, the tired eyes and frizzy hair to make us look like a million bucks on the wedding! While there is a lot of awareness among the brides regarding what look they want and taking trials, what about the MUA's side of the story? Are there things that they'd like to tell the brides as well?

WMG asked some of the big names in the industry to let us in on what they think are the biggest mistakes brides make- before, during or after roping them in and getting the job done!

Looking for a Makeup Artist With Only 3 Months to go

Ojas Rajani from Ojas Rajani Bridal Makeup Artist★ 4.9 says:

"If you want a certain MUA only thanks to your research, then make that booking even before you book your venue- the good ones get booked much in advance, and you might have to compromise with this later if the availability isn't there. Personally go and meet the MUA if you can, as this always helps in terms of pre-bridal skincare recommendations. Discuss inhibitions and be open to discussing your problem areas with the MUA. Always remember what may look good and work for someone else might not work for you."

Pimples cannot be concealed with makeup. So please visit a dermat

Bianca Louzado from Bianca Louzado Creative Make-up and Hair Design★ 5 says:

"A makeup artist's best friend is a clean canvas however, the biggest 'faux pas' a bride can make is listening to any random advice she gets from people recommending a 100 treatments for her face/hair/body ... Being a new bride she wants to heed all of this ensuring she leaves no stone unturned In achieving the quintessential 'diva bride' look! However overlooking a prior consultation either with a dermat or me, results most often in severe allergies/rashes or adversely damaged hair and skin. Remember it's easy to conceal marks BUT not pimples / rash / uneven skin tone which will be seen through your makeup and can only be photoshopped by your photographer later on."

Trying a new facial or product 2 weeks to the wedding

Shamita Gogia from Shamita Gogia Makeup Artist★ 5 agrees. She says:

"Trying a new skin care product / routine / treatment very close to your wedding date can turn into a disaster. Treatments like bleaching, hair removal, peels, clean ups, facials etc. may cause an allergic reaction. Start your treatments at least 3 months in advance and complete your final round 5-7 days before your wedding day."

Waxing a day before

Heema Dattani from Heema Dattani Hair and Makeup Artist★ 4.4 says:

"Waxing the day before is strict NO NO! Wax brows or any other area of face or body at least 3 to 4 days before the big day to avoid marks or scabs. And if you've never waxed before, don't start now. You can break out in a little rash around the area if your skin is not used to it."

Choosing different artists for different occasions

Recinda Martis from Recinda Martis Bridal Makeup★ 4.7 says:

"When brides-to-be choose a makeup artist, they choose the best one for their wedding, but choose to go with someone different for the engagement makeup. They don't realise that the engagement look and makeup is more important than wedding because it is like a prep in a way, you and the makeup artist will know what works for you and what doesn't. That way the look can be perfected on the wedding day."

Getting obsessed with incorrect reference pictures

Mitesh Rajani says :

Most brides have reference pictures of makeup these days, but these reference pictures are sometimes of people with very different skintones and textures. How makeup looks like in a particular picture is very different from how it would look on  you so don;t get hung up on references . Trust your makeup artist, take a chill pill and relax !!!

Of course, the advice WMG gives bride-to-bes is to browse our MUA Vendor Gallery well in advance before the wedding to find someone who suits your style and budget! Personally try and meet the MUA if possible and a trial always works well!
