Each family has a way of starting the wedding festivities. Apart from the shopping and the planning, there is a small ceremony, a pooja which denotes the official start of the upcoming wedding. In most Telugu households the “Paspupu Kotadam” is one of those important ceremonies that flags off the wedding craziness!
The Pasupu Kotadam is where the turmeric for the Haldi ceremony is hand pounded using a large mortar and pestle by the family. This is like a pre haldi ceremony. The women are dressed in special colors- mostly yellow and in silk and take turns to finely powder the turmeric.
