Real Brides Reveal How They're Dealing With A Postponed Wedding Due To Coronavirus

BY Twinkle | 14 Apr, 2020 | 2698 views | 6 min read

Summer wedding season is indeed the most awaited! With bookings done and functions about to happen, a lot of weddings across the world have had to face the brunt due to the Corona Virus. It isn't easy to see all your preps going down the drain, after all. To know how brides are dealing with a postponed wedding due to this pandemic and how they're making the most of the quarantine, we connected with a few real brides. Read on...

Our real bride, Pooja is spending all the time with her family!

Pooja says, "I was definitely disheartened when I first heard the news of the pandemic. However, I realised that it is a golden opportunity for me to spend some extra time with my family. Ever since my engagement, I had been running around and socialising that I hardly got to bond with my family members. From playing games to cherishing old memories or binge watching shows together, I am so glad to have got this extra time to create memories with my family. I have taken a complete break from the wedding planning and am also learning how to cook - after all, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach! I am focusing on mapping my career plan and have signed up for relevant courses, too. I'd suggest all brides who are going through a similar situation to take a break from the planning chaos, connect with long lost friends and focus on themselves as this time won't come back."

Another real bride, Shreya is resorting to fitness

Shreya, who was excited to marry her college sweetheart after dating him for 9 years, has been optimistic and says, "The whole wedding was planned - each and every detail, venue, vendors, honeymoon. Being the eternal optimist, I was hoping it doesn't escalate so much in India but looks like I have to go catch hold of the pandit who said May 1st would be a great muhurat. Being in a long distance with my fiance for about 2 years, I was excited to be able to finally say goodbye to the distance and spending time with him post marriage but looks like I will have to wait some more time now. I realised there's absolutely no sense sulking over this situation and have started doing virtual zumba sessions to keep myself in shape whenever the wedding happens. The challenges have not been emotionally easy since  we don't know when we'll really see the light of the day but what makes it worse is when my fiance sends me memes like 'This is God giving us a chance to re-think'. Well, all I can say is spend time working out and staying in with your family."

Sahana is utilising this lockdown period to know her in-laws better

Our real bride, Sahana is rather utilizing her postponed wedding as a blessing in disguise. She says, "It was just a week to our wedding when the lockdown was announced. What we immediately realised is that safety of our family and friends came first so we went ahead and announced that our wedding shall be postponed. I have stayed positive throughout the situation as I believe that celebrations can wait when the love is meant for a lifetime. Luckily, all our wedding vendors were really helpful and readily agreed to postpone all the arrangements. I'd recommend all you fellow brides to stay calm and pray that the situation dies down soon. Use this time to know your in-laws better and bond with them as much as possible. Talk to them frequently, conduct family activities and trust me, you are surely going to get a piece of their heart."

Vartika is making the most of this situation by baking

This real bride was going to be hosting her wedding in Sri Lanka and didn't let this COVID-19 deter her positivity! Vartika reveals, "Almost 95% of our wedding planning was done as we were just a month away from the wedding. Most of our guests had even booked their tickets but considering everyone's safety, we decided to push our wedding to the end of the year (hopefully). I think it's okay to be upset or to be sad, I'd suggest all you brides to take your own time to deal with it but maybe you should take this time to plan your dream wedding even better. Use it to improve your skin, hair, and to take care of your health. I have been putting my free time to finding more wedding inspiration as well as resorting to baking. I am also catching up on a lot of sleep and binge watching TV shows. The real challenge is to speak to vendors and get all the transport refunds, but I suggest you take it one day at a time."

Priyanka, the next real bride, is working on staying positive

It's often hard to console your own heart. Amidst work and social commitments, Priyanka finally had a wedding date in mind which is now postponed. Here's what she has to say, "Since my fiance and I both work in the film industry, it's difficult for us to get hold of a common date from our work schedules. Around a 100 tickets of our guests were already booked before the situation magnified in India. Thankfully, our families have understood the severity and supported our decision but since I live alone here, my parents have been really concerned about the situation. I spend most of my time trying to console them by telling them to not worry about the postponed wedding and instead focus on the good. I keep myself busy reading positive articles and books to keep up the spirit and keep telling myself that everything happens for good."

Real Bride Aakanksha, is learning cooking and indulging in dance fitness with WedMeGood's live sessions

Well, I never really enjoyed cooking and was always dependent on my maid (who cooks like the most delish food ever), or delivery outlets. However, this quarantine has taught me to fend for myself. So I've finally started to cook. My fiance is happy with the development, and supporting me full on by learning the same thing. We've divided the dishes - he learns some, I learn the others so that we both can cook once we finally get married! (Go Corona, Go!) And we both are also joining in the amazing live sessions by WedMeGood on their Instagram channel. It helps us connect over something that we both are doing at the same time (I am totally kicking his ass in dance fitness!) and it helps us stay busy and fit! Loving those sessions!
