I am guilty of not doing this but I would advise every bride to finish booking your venue first. Fixing a date isn’t going to be enough, you need a venue to get married in. Finalize all your venues first and then you can plan your wedding. In excitement I did my wedding lehenga first and then we loved an outdoor venue and I felt that my lehenga actually dint suit an outdoor wedding and then it all became a little problematic. So venue first!

I would suggest create your core committee. A group of family and friends who will help you plan the wedding. Even if you have a wedding planner, this core group is important I feel. To help you co-ordinate, to help you shop or plan or make decisions when you are too busy or tired. So this is what I would suggest you do first.

I would say finalise the budget, guestlist and who pays for what first. Its slightly awkward since most families expect the girl’s side to pay for all but whatever the breakup is, discuss it and clear it up first.

Hire a wedding planner! That’s what I did as soon as I got engaged and it did me a lot of good. I was excited as a puppy and wanted to do too many things. A wedding planner helps you with all that, plus knows how to handle over-excited brides (something my parents dint know) so if there was one wedding task I would ask a future bride to do is hire a wedding planner!

I would recommend to talk how you want your wedding to be with your fiancé. I never did that and mid-planning we had a huge fight because of all the planning stress where I came to know how upset he was to not be included in most decisions because I never thought he would be interested in décor and flowers and lehengas. So big mistake! Don’t do that. Talk with your partner about how you BOTH want your wedding to be.

As a bride who got married in a lockdown I would recommend you close your wedding location and venue first. It’s very important and it’s one of the questions that every vendor you book will ask. So you can’t book other vendors on tentative dates, they won’t take a booking – be it your makeup guy or photographer. So do that first!
