The Smokey Eye Bride: Would you be one?

BY The WMG Bride | 19 Nov, 2014 | 2310 views | 3 min read

"Dont you daaaree" yells your sister as she leaps across the room to stop your makeup artist from using red, green and gold eyeshadows together to turn you into an Indian-ified christmas tree (Shudder..Well, okay if you are lucky enough to have any of these makeup artists that shouldn't be a problem but you get what we mean).  And while we totally echo the non-christmas tree sentiment, there is one trend that's been sweeping the nation one bridal eye at a time and that's the Smokey eye . Deep purple , Classic Black or soft chocolate brown, a smokey eyed bride looks mysterious , elegant and well..sexy on her wedding day.

So is it for you:

  • Smokey eyes pretty much look good on every eye shape depending on how smokey they are made. If you have large eyes in proportion to your face, then a smokey eye will look great in deep black, rich purple, emerald green and in general darker hues. For smaller eyes do a soft brown smokey eye or a gold smokey eye- basically smokey eye in colors that are not as dark will look better and have an inner corner highlight.
  • Another aspect to consider is the lehenga or saree you are wearing on the big day. Smokey eyes would look great against lehengas with rich jewel tones , but they look beautiful as a contrast against a pale, blush pink lehenga as well- Remember Sonam Kapoors killer smokey eye with her Anamika Khanna blush saree? The way it works- match a light blush lip color with your lehenga to make the look come together. We wouldn't recommend a smokey eye if your lehenga has a lot going on - think red , with green and gold and bling- stick to a neutral wash over the eye as opposed to going smokey or it will look overwhelming. We would do a smokey eye if your lehenga is monochrome.
  • Half of the success of a stunning smokey eye depends on how flawless the base is. If the base is not super smooth, then the dark eyes can pick up on the darkness around the face and highlight spots.
  • If you are a darker skintone, then a smokey eye is a great option for you to look put together without looking over whelming - think Rani Mukherjee style
  • Also keep in mind the type of photography happening. A lot of flash photography in an indoor setting is not the ideal setting for a smokey eye.

Whaddya think? Would you take a detour from the gold eyes and take a spin on the smokey route?
