The Sweetest Bunt Wedding in Bangalore!

BY The WMG Bride | 11 Apr, 2016 | 18297 views | 6 min read

Bunts are a rather festive community  and when this particular Mangalorean wedding landed in our inboxes,  it gave it a whole lot of colour. The purple and yellow haldi decor, the adorable bride & groom chairs, the gorge outfits and the palanquin the bride made her entry in...ah -amazing! Major props to the bride for carrying off all her versatile looks so effortlessly and gracefully. All this captured by Nikhil Shastri★ 5 .

Meet Tripti & Anirudh

"Ours was a typical arranged marriage or you could call it assisted marriage. Anirudh was born and raised in Bangalore and is working in Bermuda. He is multi-talented and basically gets along with anyone and everyone. I grew up in Dubai, lived there almost all my life and I'm very difficult to describe :)" says Tripti in jest!

"My mom's friend and his mom got talking about each other and decided to convince us both to get in touch with each other. We both were at stage where he still wasn't ready to settle and marry and I was just fed-up looking at boys for a very long time. As with any South-Indian, the pressure to find someone from USA or Canada is immense and I just didn't want that. The funny part was that he was working in Bermuda, a small island which I really didn't know existed. So it took a while for my mom and my friend (who was on my mom's side) to convince me to just exchange emails and chat. I finally agreed to see his photo and when I did I was maybe 5% convinced  and when he saw my picture he was 100% convinced lol!  Just kidding, I was 50% convinced to talk to him. We spoke a few times and clicked instantly and felt we have known each other forever. That conversation lasted for the whole day and here we are, married almost for 6 months. We decided in two weeks we wanted to be with each other without even meeting but when we met, we realised it was the best decision ever!" adds Tripti.

From The Bride:

"So we decided on three days of events in Bangalore - a whole of five events. We had killer dances, amazing decor and of course, a good 1000 people, 950 of them that we both did not know. It all comes with family, LOL. We both are from the Mangalorean Bunt Community and a typical Bunt wedding is just a one-day affair. The ceremony takes place in the morning and reception in the evening and with just one or  pre-wedding ceremonies like Mehendi and Haldi. But I was very clear that wasn't going to happen with me.  Like a typical girl, I always had a picture of what I wanted to wear and how my wedding would be. I wanted it to be more fun and more memorable even for the bride and groom who usually miss out all the fun because they are so stressed out. So we spread out all the events in three days so that it's more relaxed and fun!" explains Tripti.

For my first event, Haldi, I wanted to dress up as Shakuntala. I definitely couldn’t spend too much on my outfit because it will be drenched in haldi and water. So I went to Prathiksha from Bangalore, a well known fashion designer and has her own fashion house. She designed the outfit and we picked fabrics, designs and colours together. With my haldi outfit I got some real flower jewellery done from Anita Khubchandani from Mumbai. They did an excellent job and flowers actually stayed fresh for three days.

Soon after my Haldi was my Muhurtha function where according to tradition, my aunt puts the toe ring for me and close family and friends shower their blessing. I went for a very beautiful Benaras saree in bright pink colour with silver and gold thread work on it. Since my Mehendi and Sangeet functions were combined, I wanted a bright colour combination and found an outfit by my favourite designer Anamika Khanna. My husband's outfit was designed by a famous designer Varoin Marwah who created it to compliment my outfit. The jewellery has a fun story to it - I fell in love with this chain and bought it about two years before I got married thinking that I would wear it someday for my wedding. Thats how crazy prepared I was" says Tripti.

"As for the wedding, since I am South-Indian from Mangalore, we wear the typical Kanjeevaram saree for the ceremony. Since I was a fan of Kiron Kher and her Gaurang Shah sarees, I went to his exhibition in Dubai. There I saw this beautiful bright red saree with peacock print but since it was the very first saree I ever tried on, I didn’t want to decide on it so soon. Once I went and checked out all the cities for wedding saris, I was convinced that the Gaurang Shah saree was the one so I went to his store in Bangalore and asked them to get me the same saree and luckily they had that one ready for me. Thank God. My reception look was inspired by white weddings in the west. Being a Hindu, I knew I cannot wear white at the wedding so I chose a beautiful ivory cape saree at Sabyasachi. The cape had a long train which gave me the feel of wearing a gown that swept across the floor. Since my blouse was very heavy and came with a closed neck, I wore a simple  diamond necklace with a big maang teeka and earrings.  My husband wore a white and black tux with a bow tie designed by his cousin Shyma Shetty for Huemn" adds Tripti.
