This Couple's Virtual Wedding Went Viral Because Of A Letter!

BY Sakshi | 16 May, 2020 | 23102 views | 4 min read

We love featuring an intimate (and of course, impulsive) lockdown wedding, and this one even went viral- not for the wedding, but for the announcement! So this letter went viral on Whatsapp, which was hilarious- the permission, as well as the reply!

So we tracked down the couple, who turned out to be a Naval Fighter Pilot and a Bollywood Celebrity stylist who woke up one lockdown morning and decided they wanted to get married- which happened right in their living room, and planned in about half a day. And we love their super cute love story too!

Meet Nishant and Nayaab

The Love Story

"We first met in school, me a 12th grade bully and her an 8th grade rebel. Cut to 13 years later, we randomly bumped into each other at a common friend's house. A few drinks down, the awkward memories we had of each other from school had been washed away and by the end of that night I knew that something had hit me, something had changed in me forever and that I was intrigued beyond restraint. I knew she was trouble, and I knew I was in deeper trouble and so from that day on I named her "trouble". I got her number somehow and began a saga of sleepless nights of pursuing her through messages and calls."

The Proposal

"2 and half years of bliss passed by in a whiff. We were both travel hungry souls and we backpacked across countries together every year. I learnt she has a fear of heights, so on one such trip in the Philippines. Without her having the faintest clue of what she was up for that day, I tried to get rid of her by throwing her of a plane, only to find that the goddamn parachute actually worked and she survived! So I had no option but to bend the knee and present her with a shiny rock when she landed and beg for forgiveness and settle for a lifetime of slavery. She happily took up the offer and moved to Goa to live with me."

The Wedding

"A few months later during the lockdown due to Covid-19, on a random Saturday morning I asked her, "Do you wanna get married tomorrow?" She obviously thought I was joking, but soon she realised I was either serious or maybe outta my mind. So I got outta bed and started making all the arrangements. Somewhere in between all of it in less than about 15 minutes as per the traditions of the Navy, I also wrote a letter (full of mistakes) to my Commanding officer for permission to get married. I delivered it by hand to his house in the evening. He managed to get over the initial shock and gave me his approval."

"We informed our parents about our decision at 8 pm that night and they didn't know how to react. We got married the next day before noon, in a crisp 20 minute living room wedding, among 8 people while maintaining proper social distancing, and our parents on a "zoom" call. The only 'new' attire we wore on our wedding day were our face masks!"

"A pandit came home and did a 15 minute Hindu ceremony. A Sikh coursemate's Buaji did a 5 minute sikh ceremony. The physical attendees were just a handful of people- My CO and His Wife and a few course mates with their families. We all wore masks and followed social distancing. Both our parents and Nayaab's sister and her husband from the US were on Zoom call through the wedding. They gave us their blessings via emojis. As soon as the ceremony was over, we cut a cake and popped open a champagne and then it was just a party till wee hours of the next day.

"By the time we got out of the hangover of the day, we were hit by an absolutely unexpected news that apparently my letter to my CO and his reply had gone viral on social media. All of a sudden my phone wouldn't stop buzzing and apart from friends and family and acquaintances, News channels, websites and journalists were trying to get in touch with me. We had no clue what hit us."
