#FirstPerson – How My Daughter Saved Me From An Abusive Marriage and Got Me Remarried!

BY Apoorva | 26 Sep, 2022 | 11025 views | 4 min read

All’s well that ends well! That is precisely what happened to Jessica and her mom, Anisha Nisha. After suffering for years in an abusive marriage, Jessica helped her mom to get out of it and also restart her new life. How incredible is that? It’s so heart-warming to see a mother-daughter bond like this, so we had to share this story with you. And who better to tell this story than the true hero of this journey, Anisha Nisha herself!

“I got married when I was 18 years old. I was naïve and went against my parents’ wishes to get married to the person whom I loved the most at the time. It took me only a few days to realize what a humongous mistake I had made. But I believed his lies and fake promises and tried to work on my marriage. We decided to have a baby, thinking that a new baby could repair our broken relationship.

My daughter, Jessica, the biggest blessing of my life was born in 2003. I started seeing things clearly and looked out for her. My husband used to drink, smoke, and spend money on prostitution and drugs all day, without working. He was even cheating on me. I wanted Jessica to have a healthy childhood away from all of this. I started working as a model but he used to take all my money and spend it on his vices. I was selected for Mrs India in 2012, which was a huge milestone for me. I tried to step away from the marriage on a number of occasions but he kept making life very difficult for us with murder threats and acid-throwing threats.

In 2018, my daughter started slipping into depression because of this entire ordeal and I decided that it was enough. I had lost my life but I wasn’t going to lose her and filed for divorce. We moved away with my parent's help and innumerable police complaints, we were finally staying at a place where we were safe. Jessica wanted me to move on in life with a new partner but I wasn’t looking at anything new at that time. Jessica and I were building our own unique mom-daughter bond.

Without informing me, she created my profile on a dating app where she reached out to guys who were interested in my profile. I was furious at her for taking this step without asking me and deleted all messages from people who contacted me on Instagram via the dating app. But as destiny would have it, Ashwani, who I had matched on the dating app was one of the few messages that did not get deleted. After a few weeks, I spoke to Ashwani and initially even had a tiff! Jessica insisted I at least go on a date with him once.

When I met Ashwani for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised by how laid back and calm he was. A true gentleman, he never insisted on anything that I wasn’t comfortable with – even if it was just sharing my phone number. We spoke for a few months and decided to continue our friendship as we were slowly getting to know each other. After a few months, we launched our own modelling agency together and even started work together. I knew that Ashwani was interested in getting married but I was worried that his parents may not approve of me and Jessica. But his parents supported our work endeavour and accepted us with such open arms that I couldn’t just say no. I was so elated to get a chance at a happy life.

On 25th November 2020, we tied the knot; it was a joyous occasion. To be with someone who not only loves you and your family but supports every step is such an important factor for me.

It was the first time that I saw that it wasn’t the parents who fixed the marriage, but instead, a child got the parents married! I am so proud of the daughter that I brought up and how she flowered into such a beautiful human being”

This is such an incredible story of struggles, hard work and a unique happy ending. Whether it's your first, second or third marriage, you should feel free to take the decision to get together with anyone that you love. Team WedMeGood applauds Anisha Nisha and Jessica for their amazing journey and wins together!
