If an intimate wedding is what your heart desires, then definitely take some pointers from this one! Kiran and Rajan had a small wedding at her parents' backyard, but it was an extremely elegant affair that looked timeless in photos. The bride wore a classic red and gold Sabyasachi lehenga which popped beautifully against the foliage inspired decor and her bright sangeet lehenga caught our eye too! Everything about this pandemic Canada wedding was charming- just the way an intimate affair should be.
Meet Kiran and Rajan
We met on Instagram! He slid into my DMs a few years ago, but we didn't actually start dating until about a year and a half after the fact. I was avoiding going on a date with him, but he was persistent and our first date certainly changed my view... because here we are.
From The Bride:
Despite the circumstances as it was a COVID wedding during the peak of Ontario, Canada's third lockdown, our wedding was as serene and magical as we could've ever imagined. The Anand Karaj was my favourite moment, because it was just our immediate families (14 of us altogether) and it was quite peaceful and beautiful, being surrounded by the ones who love us most.
I didn't have a strict theme or style, but I knew I wanted all the events and the whole feel and vibe of the wedding to be timeless. I didn't move forward with trendy decor or outfits because I truly wanted the wedding to stand the test of time, when I look back on it 5, 10 or 20 years from now. We used a lot of florals, candles and muted colours to ensure our vibrant outfits stood out.
For the anand karaj/wedding ceremony, my hair and makeup was done by Yasmine Lashkari (@yasmiinee_l) and she worked some magic! I was completely in awe of my wedding look and I still felt I looked like myself and not overly done or cakey. For the mehndi and sangeet events, my hair and makeup was done by Canvas (@canvasbeautyco) who are always a pleasure to work with (they also did my engagement hair and makeup as well as the dinner party!)
Me! My professional background is in public relations and events so taking on this task was a no-brainer. However, I didn't anticipate a global pandemic so now I'm definitely equipped to handle event planning and management quite well.
Tirath Shergill (@tirath.shergill) Tirath was a pleasure to work with! She understood my vision completely and knew I wanted to candid and creative shots of not just my husband and I, but of our family members and guests as well. Her work is magical!
Xclusive Designs (@xclusivedesigns) did all the decor for the ceremony, sangeet and mehndi. She is the absolute sweetest and truly goes out of her way to ensure your vision comes to life effortlessly. She went above and beyond and I will 100% always recommend her. Her work is stunning and she takes the time to get to know the client and works to provide the most efficient and reliable service. The florals were provided by Bloomen (@bloomenbrides).
For the ceremony/Anand Karaj, I wore Sabyasachi. I didn't think I was going to go this route but I visited his store in Delhi right before the pandemic began and ended up falling in love with the outfit. It was a dream and I truly felt red was the way to go as it's effortless and timeless. For my sangeet, I wore a yellow Anita Dongre lehenga purchased from the NYC flagship. It was so light and easy to wear, especially during a night dancing and drinking! For my mehndi, my original Ritu Kumar dress did not arrive in time due to the strict lockdowns in India so I ended up wearing a floral H&M dress I had my closet from a few years back.
Sonia Randhawa (@sonias_henna_art) did my henna. I'm not a huge fan of henna so she was accommodating and made me feel comfortable during the whole 3-hour process.
For the mehndi and sangeet, the catering was done by Avani and the food was absolutely delicious. Breakfast and lunch for the wedding ceremony was provided by Cuisine of India and he was super accommodating and a blast to work with when it came to preparing the perfect menu.
As we were prepared for a COVID wedding, we knew it would be intimate so I ended up designing, creating and printing the invitations myself as we only needed a handful for photography, family and as keepsakes.
My bridal jewelry was provided by RJS Company (@rjs_company). They went above and beyond to customize my bridal accessories and even ordered additional pieces in the event I wasn't happy with the original. Amazing service!
