Vibrant Wedding With a "Gypsy Bride" Lehenga!

BY Latha Sunadh | 28 Sep, 2016 | 5940 views | 4 min read

So if you follow us, you know we have a fare share of Sabya sightings and honestly, they can tend to get cliched. But this bride  really took her look up a notch with a unique color palette and beautiful styling - unlike one we have seen in a long time  . Nikhil, the director of a digital marketing house, loves all things tech while Karishma, who is a Fashion Brand Consultant, is creative, fashion-savvy and all things nice! Right from the varied outfits she wore to the sweet baraat the couple had - we loved every bit of it. Photography by The Wedding Crasher was on point and they captured every emotion beautifully.

Meet Karishma & Nikhil

" Our parents had been old friends and we met at a dinner where both sets of parents were present at an event. But luckily for us, there was equal attraction on both sides and we dated for five years. We both felt that marriage was a natural progression. It helped that both are Sindhi and our parents were already friends. We were guessing if they hadn't fallen in love on their own, our parents might have set us up anyway!" explains Karishma. TWC1-135TWC1-153 TWC1-232 TWC1-114

From The Bride: "I’m usually quite understated and minimal in my dressing. Being the bride of course I definitely had to take it up few notches yet sticking to my style and dressing aesthetics. For the Mehendi I decided to design the outfit myself down to the embroidery and fabric sourcing as well. I decided to go with ivory with hints of red and dull gold. For the Sangeet: I remember attending Ridhi Mehra’s show at LFW for Fall Winter’15. Showstopper Esha Gupta walked in a midnight blue gown and I knew that very moment, that outfit had to be one of my wedding ensembles. I had the same outfit customized and suited for the Sangeet in an oxblood red with a lovely drape with hints of self sequins and antique gold detailing. The look was modern vintage," says Karishma.

"The pheras outfit had to be a Sabya. Yes very clichéd, every bride dreams of wearing a Sabyasachi lehenga and I did too. I love bohemian dressing which clearly reflects in my choice of lehenga too with abundance of coloured patchwork panels across and the dupattas joining in the colour riot. I call it my ‘Gypsy Bride’ lehenga. Special mention to my Mom, Dad and Sister for this outfit pick! Amrit Kaur worked magic with my hair and make-up especially with this outfit. I couldn’t imagine myself looking any better or doing justice to the lehenga without that very typical Sabya lookbook inspired make-up that Amrit achieved. The reception outfit was a Gaurav Gupta gown. I chose a midnight blue with a very futuristic one shoulder detailing," explains Karishma.

"We always wanted to steer clear of Mumbai as a destination for the wedding. We wanted a resident wedding, with close family and friends (it just made sense since we had an endless guest list). The idea was to focus on a comfortable experience for the guests that we really wanted as part of our celebrations. Therefore, no running around to different venues, no oddball theme dress codes, and the facility to be comfortable for the after-party. Sindhi weddings tend to end at breakfast time (we were no exception) so the night functions had to be banging. DJs, bartenders, performers, event crew, menus, etc. were all fixed keeping this in mind. All-in-all the vision was to treat this is as a two-and-a-half day festival with good food and adequate spirits to wash it down," adds Karishma.
