Romantic Wedding in the Backwaters of Kerala With A Cute Mehendi On a Houseboat!

BY The WMG Bride | 25 Dec, 2015 | 6706 views | 5 min read

It's not everyday that we get a mehendi that happens on a houseboat, or wedding photos that look like they are out of an international magazine  - and this one just landed in our inbox.  This luxury christian wedding had everything to boot - a beautiful white dress,  chic bridesmaids, wonderful Dior-esque floral arrangements, personalised wooden signages  and the cutest vintage car with balloons in tow.  Special mention to the amazing bridal party photos shot by  Chris Pira Photography.

Meet Sona & Renoy

"Renoy and I met at church, when we were 14 years old. I still remember that cute boy in a white Kurta walking towards me nervously but with all the courage in the world and asked me my name. I felt a feeling then that I never felt before...excitement...nervousness and an army of butterflies in my belly ..and after 12 years he still manages to make me feel the same way. Being with him doesn't make me feel like a typical marriage, it's like living with your best friend," says Sona excitedly.

From The Bride:  "We wanted a wedding where people would come and reconfirm their faith in love...  we wanted it personal...dreamy...and powerful!! This was our vision and with few months of planning and lot of support from our family and friends we were able to achieve this. Our beautiful Christian wedding took place on 14th Nov in the backwaters of Kumarakom. I've always as a child been wowed by its beauty and wanted to be married there. My mom told me where I wanted to marry  depends on the man my fate decides. As wonderful as destiny works its way I got married to my best friend of 12 years.  I remember being a teenager and visiting the beautiful backwaters of Kumarakom and wishing I could get married there and years later I am ecstatic that my dream wedding came true!! Since we are settled in Dubai all our families and friends travelled with us to be a part of the wedding. And since they were going out of the way for us we decided to make it big 5-day celebration they will not forget. We wanted all the events to have a personal touch and adopted various traditions practiced at different weddings. The 5 days were more like a Re-union in our Union," explains Sona "Our first event was the sangeet at Vivanta by Taj-  Green Cove in Kovalam as the grooms family is from that side of Kerala. The theme was "Cinema". We wanted to have decor which gave a feeling to our guests that they were going in for a premiere of a movie. Starting from our  invites which were designed like VIP Premiere movie tickets. We had a popcorn guy at the entrance - it was like a movie premiere alright plus,  the place smelled like a theatre with fresh popcorns...yummy!!! We also had famous movie posters morphed with the bride and groom pictures making us the stars for the night" adds Sona. "Our second event - The Wedding Rehersal and Bride and Groom Blessing Ceremony was in Suvasam Lake Resort in Kuamrakom.  The theme was traditional kerala ambience. We all wore traditional Kerala sarees and dhotis with chendas being played as we entered. The third day was the wedding at Backwater Ripples Resort. We wanted to have a dreamy and vintage-inspired theme with pastel colours- light coral and white along with pale gold. Wanted the entire setting to blend with the green  landscape of the resort. The ceremony was indoors but the first dance, cake cutting, toast, and lunch was outdoors by the backwaters. We arrived in a beautiful vintage car with our guest welcoming us with flower petals and bubbles!! We had a  jazz band playing in the background...everything was perfect and by God's grace there was not a drop of rain!! Since I was wearing a white gown and a lehenga for my reception, I did not want to mix indian and western hence we decided to keep the Mehendi the day after the wedding and before the reception. We had our mehendi in an house boat which our guests loved because there were able to see the raw beauty of Kerala and enjoy the backwaters with authentic Kerala food!! And the best part being my brand new husband surprising me with an adorable dance!! The last and final event being the wedding reception in the same venue as the wedding- Backwater Ripples Resort. Since this was in the evening we wanted to have a rustic theme with warm lighting. We had  speeches dances and even a flash mob. We danced like no tommorow and ended the 5 amazing night with fireworks!!! It was a hit and there was no one who left with dry eyes!!! I have been inspired by various articles and I must say to be able to feature as a real bride in your website would be an absolute honour. To capture our dream I've always wanted fine art photography and hence hired an international destination wedding photographer from Germany and she has been nothing but awesome," adds Sona with glee.
