Sunny Winter Day Wedding in Delhi With a Beautiful Benarasi Lehenga!

BY The WMG Bride | 11 May, 2016 | 8640 views | 6 min read

When we heard the word  Ekaya and Benaras in the same sentence, we knew we had  a bride who knew her mind, who went all heritage and traditional, and took an alternate route from the cookie cutter replicas we sometimes see. Apart from their really cute love story (aww), this wedding also had glimpses of so much warmth and fun! Specially love the fern wreaths and painted bottles. The beauty of this exquisite ceremony was captured by TThe Creative Lens★ 4.9

Meet Manini & Apurv

Manini | Apurv - A Very Beautiful Wedding! from The Creative Lens on Vimeo.

"We lived in the same colony and met each other during the soccer world cup of 2010 at a terrace party. I remember it started raining that night but all of us were in the mood to party so we remained on the terrace getting drenched. That was the night I was introduced to Apurv because he was sitting right in the middle of the terrace on a chair engrossed in eating a chocolate cake which I found very fascinating, yet amusing! We realized we had grown up in the same colony for years and had no clue either of us existed even though we had quite a few common friends. Post that, we started meeting almost every evening. A bunch of us would meet up, take a walk or just chill near a bench in a park right outside my house. We called the bench the "shady bench" - oh so many hours have been spent there having the most inane conversations, being silly over superheroes and bickering! Over time we got to know each other better and since then the friendship never stopped and here we are" explains Manini.

From The Bride:

"I always imagined a day wedding. In my mind, it was going to be a beautiful sunny Delhi winter day with lots of fresh bright colours and pretty flowers and that is exactly how it turned out! I couldn't be more thankful to the weather gods for their blessings.

The colour theme for my wedding was gold, green, pink and orange. The venue was adorned with marigold both in yellow and orange, and white chrysanthemums with a bare minimum splash of yellow and pink roses. We had coloured glass bottles with flowers hanging from trees on one side, small bird cages full of marigolds hanging from trees on the other and flower balls from some. Both Apurv and I were against having a stage at the venue. We decided to just walk around and meet people after the ceremony which made it a lot more interactive and fun" says Manini.

"I'm a big fan of everything handloom and I get this from my mother. I've grown up seeing her love for sarees, handloom and specialities from different states of India. So I was pretty certain my wedding theme is going to be traditional Indian. My lehenga, my mother's saree and my bhabhi's saree were all benarasi. My lehenga was a benarasi khadi in pink and orange from Ekaya Banaras. They have a lovely store with some exquisite sarees, lehengas and materials. This was the first lehenga I saw there it was literally love at first sight. To this date, I get compliments for my choice of the lehenga. Most importantly, I can easily wear it again anywhere, team the lehenga skirt with a different blouse, use the blouse with a different saree or skirt - there are so many possibilities!I wore an all gold jhalar set from Zaveri and my mothers jewellery from her wedding with it. Apurv's sherwani was teamed with a dhoti to match the colour palate I had. His dhoti was a particular shade of rust that matched with my orange dupatta and his stole was the same shade as my dupatta. My mother was the master planner in terms of clothes so most of the credit goes to her and her choice.

In line with my handloom/traditional theme, I got my sangeet outfit from Ekaya too. It was a green kurta with ikat print with light gota-patti work on kora/organza silk with palazzo pants. Again, it was simple yet elegant and I cannot wait to wear it again at a friend's wedding," adds Manini.

"The wedding invites were the best bit, they were designed by me and my parents. We belong to Bihar, so the cover has a Madhubani painting consisting of fish, water, and a bamboo tree. These are considered to be extremely auspicious and thus used traditionally in Madhubani paintings from Bihar. The card inlets had a small Ganpati with a Madhubani painting made by a child artist, the other card had a small bamboo tree.

The cards were printed on hand-made paper from Khadi Gramodyog. The text in the card was handwritten by my father in Hindi on one side and English on the other" explains Manini.
