This Man Runs A Free 'Dress Bank' For Underprivileged Girls To Wear On Their Big Day

BY Sakshi | 07 Jan, 2022 | 1815 views | 2 min read

Bridal outfits do not come cheap, even if it is from a small store. When most of us even have to allot a certain budget to it, imagine what do the underprivileged do? Doesn't really make so much sense to spend so much money on an outfit that will only be worn once, right?

A Kerala man, Nasar Thootha has come up with a novel idea to ease this conundrum for girls from poor families- he has set up a free wedding dress bank. Now isn't that something fantastic? He helps girls from poorer families look gorgeous on their wedding day without spending a penny on their outfits.

According to Al Jazeera, he has helped over 260 brides so far by giving them a wedding dress absolutely free of cost. But what really inspired him to do so? He used to work in Saudi Arabia earlier, but after coming back to India, he started doing charity work and came across a lot of families who couldn't afford a wedding dress for their daughter's weddings. That's when he started the 'dress bank' in 2020 as an experiment and started collecting outfits from all over.

There was an overwhelming response as packages kept appearing on his doorstep! He got them dry cleaned and ready, brides would contact him via Facebook, and he even started sending them out over video call long distances! His dress bank currently has over 800 dresses for Hindu, Christian, and Muslim brides. One great thing is that he doesn't ask for the outfits back, he just asks the women to pass them on to another underprivileged bride- now isn't that something?

Love this initiative, and if you want to know more to make a dress donation yourself, then contact Nasar Thootha on his Facebook page here.
