You did not hear that wrong! Yes, we repeat- you can rent a whole island just for the two of you to chill in! Now can a honeymoon get better than that? 

Imagine waking up to pristine clear water, surrounded by lush green coconut trees and a cozy little haven nestled in the middle of an island in the Indian Ocean, which is about as private as it can get! 

So, which island are we talking about?

It's the Taprobane Island, a tiny little island in the bay of Weligama, off the coast of Sri Lanka. In fact, it's the only piece of land between Sri Lanka and the South Pole! It was previously known as Galduwa or Rock Island, and is about 2 and a half acres in size.

What all does it have?

But if you're thinking it's a cute little island with basic facilities, then you couldn't be more mistaken! The old villa here has been jazzed up to have 5 suite-style bedrooms, gorgeous palatial beds and furniture and... hold your breath.. an infinity pool!

The property is surrounded with descending terraces- lush greenery that's a treat for the eyes, and don't even get us started on the food they offer!

How much would a night here cost?

How does one get to the island?

Taprobane is approximately 4½ hours from the Colombo airport. A helicopter transfers from the airport, or an elephant ride from Weligma are also alternate ways to get there! It's pretty alright to swim up there too!
