We were looking for 5 months for a lady priest for the wedding of our son. Finally we found Shrutiji. We used her for all our functions including Haldi, Nikasi and the Vedic Wedding. I wanted a well educated female priest for my wedding. This was really a dream for me as I always believed that women can do everything that men can. In a country, where women are often considered impure, it was really special to have my wedding solemnised by a female priest. She was very patient, understanding and welcoming. There are several bad practises that have become part of our wedding ceremonies (like Kanya Ka Daan, and parents not seeing their daughter's pheras). It was my dream to have my daughter’s wedding ceremony by conducted by a lady priest. And when I came to know of Acharya Shruti ji it was as if my dream came true. We had our ritual wedding on 25th December 2022 and Acharya Shrutiji conducted it so beautifully. She is very modern in her thoughts and we felt that there was a lot of equality in our vows and her preachings which is how we wanted it. She is very warm and approachable and has a great presence too. She is very fluent and explained each vow to us very well. She only did the rituals that are relevant in todays day and age. No ritual was regressive or outdated. She was very comfortable with our decision to not do kanyadaan unlike all the other priests I had spoken to before her. I had blocked her dates 6 months in advance and she was very professional with her arrival to the wedding timings and was very clear with her requirements. She and her team provided all the Pooja samagri and our wedding was a smooth 1.5 hour ritual . I’d highly recommend her. In this male dominated field she’s truly an inspiration.

I had great fortune to have the honor and privilege of Acharya Shruti Ji officiating my wedding ceremony this winter in the jungle in Rajasthan. My husband's family have used the same male pandit in their weddings in Mumbai, and usually with these sorts of things the referrals come through word of mouth and with a tradition of hiring the same person. However, my husband and I were insisting on keeping a traditional Indian matrimony while simultaneously carefully breaking a number of traditions that did not resonate with us or our personal life path. Since I am an American and he has emigrated from India to Canada, we wanted to spark new traditions and be mindful about which parts the past we will carry forward. The most central part of this in our mind were the sacred vows. I am a writer by trade and enjoyed the study of linguistics in my University, so word-smithing and the magic that comes from speaking words has always been a deep passion of mine. However, I have only just begun my study of Hindi and Sanskrit and so I came with limited knowledge about the traditional Vedic rites. As I learned more and learned of the rites of "kanya daan" and came to know what pandits often do during marriage rituals, I realized that the same patriarchal concerns in Western culture and marriage were also present in Vedic wedding ceremonies. For me, as someone who is a fierce believer in equality and feminism, much of that was problematic. And in speaking to other pandits as well as my husband's family, not many people understood my concerns and even thought that these practices were required and that the wedding would not be the same without it. I was feeling deeply disappointed and also frustrated that priestesses were so hard to find. As I came to know more, I found out that some are even targets due to the taboo status of female pandits in some circles. Fortunately times are changing, but there is still a stigma among some and it was unheard of among my crowd to hire a woman to officiate a marriage-- no one else had seen it happen until our wedding. But planning an Indian wedding as a novice American while overseas is not at all easy, so I was ready to give up until I asked in a wedding forum if anyone knew of an officiant in Rajasthan. Someone shared that Shruti-Ji is based in Jaipur and linked her social media profile. My husband (then fiancé) and I spoke to her once, confirmed she was available on our dates, and immediately booked her. Nearly every person in attendance specifically mentioned to us afterwards that Shruti Ji was the highlight of our three-night destination wedding. She took the time to explain the rites to the crowd, she sung beautifully, and she had us recite the most central vows together in English-- the language my husband and I use to communicate together the most. She and her attendant handled everything with the utmost professionalism and careful attention. The two of them are a two-woman show in my mind: the only thing you really need is them. Her assistant even took great photos and immediately shared them! Same-day photos! The ways in which the offerings are made, with the careful naming and gifting of offerings and objects was pleasing to me. Trust me, I am a person who pays deep attention to this sort of ritual and symbolism and was after something very specific, so I was shocked and thrilled to see her deliver this without us even needing to say a word to one another about it. Her presence at my marriage was a dream come true, and for me a critical cementing of things that I hold dear: the empowerment of women, the exaltation of women as sacred carriers of divine messages, and the act of carrying forward the blessings of intelligent and pious women. My husband and his family were blown away, but for their own personal reasons that were different from mine. The fact that she pleased me, a radical feminist American writer, and my husband and his traditional conservative Kutchi Jain family should speak more volumes than the words on this page. My husband and I attended a wedding after ours, and were shocked at the pandit's patriarchal side comments and robotic speed delivery of the vows. Even the family of the bride and groom were wandering around eating and not paying attention. During our pheras, everyone was surrounding us, watching with full attention. Afterward, everyone marveled at just how different it was to actually come together and experience the pheras together, which is certainly not the norm at other weddings they've hosted or attended. Achaya Shruti Ji truly brings people together and having her at your wedding is one of the most auspicious honors that one can ask for or receive.

Me and my elder sister had read articles of female priests conducting all rituals of wedding, starting from sagai to pheras, and one very important point in these articles was elimination of an age-old tradition: Kanyadaan, which is a very sensitive yet important topic. Since the discussion of my sister’s wedding began, me and my sister were sure that we wanted a female priest to conduct rituals in the same way. We reached out to Acharya Shruti ji, made her talk to our parents and very patiently she made them understand how she conducts all puja and rituals, and also the logical reasoning behind not conducting Kanyadaan and what they do instead of Kanyadaan. She did the same during the pheras also, where she explained the same reasoning to our family who was present there and they all appreciated the reasoning as well.
If anyone has ever had a doubt that being a female pandit, they have lesser experience or would not know certain details, please remove those doubts from your mind. She is very well educated, highly knowledgable about all rituals along with the reasonings, very clear in all her mantra uccharans (mantra pronunciations) and very accomodating. It was an honour to get the rituals done by her, and gave us the feeling that ladies truly can do it all. Har ritual/puja ko unhone bahut saralta se samjhaya aur bahut patiently sab conduct kara. Humen bahut hi acha laga ki unhone humari sari puja karwayin aur sab bahut hi ache se hua.

It is a matter of good luck for a couple to get married by you..the beautiful advice you give to the householder..there is no price for it..you are very knowledgeable..you told that you have done more than 100 marriage rituals till now.. This is a great inspiration for women.

When my husband and I decided we wanted to get married, we were sure about one thing - our marriage will be of 2 equals.
